Our company has a rich history of exporting its oil production, and it primarily utilized the 1,500-kilometer Uzen-Atyrau-Samara (UAS) pipeline, with Samara serving as the key export outlet, a route that has been integral to our export operations.
Since 2001, we've strengthened our export capabilities further through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium's (CPC) 1,510-kilometer pipeline, connecting us to the Russian city-port of Novorossiysk on the Black Sea. This route has proven to be more financially advantageous for us, prompting us to diligently increase the proportion of our exports via the CPC pipeline. This strategic shift reflects our unwavering commitment to optimizing our export operations for the benefit of our company and stakeholders.
Given Kazakhstan's predominantly landlocked geography, the need for enhanced transportation infrastructure is paramount to facilitate increased export production. Fortunately, significant improvements in this regard have been realized in recent years.
Our refinery enjoys consistent access to essential pipeline infrastructure, thanks to its robust relationship with its parent company. Notably, the Uzen-Atyrau-Samara (UAS) and Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) pipelines serve as vital export routes for the company. Furthermore, the Atyrau refinery receives a significant portion of its supply from KMG EP, reinforcing the collaborative ties within Kazakhstan's energy sector.
Additionally, our refinery plays a pivotal role as a supplier of crude oil to the Kazakhstan-China pipeline, underscoring its position as a key contributor to the region's energy supply chain.
Despite Kazakhstan's reliance on neighboring countries to facilitate the export of its oil, the nation boasts a rapidly expanding and diverse export market. We have successfully obtained access to the company's oil transport infrastructure, thanks to our strong connections with our parent company.
In 2016, our refinery achieved significant export milestones, with 59% of our crude oil production coming from our core assets, UMG and EMG. During this period, the CPC pipeline played a pivotal role in exporting 26% of our crude oil sales, while the UAS pipeline contributed significantly by exporting 33%. These figures underscore our active participation in and contribution to the dynamic landscape of Kazakhstan's oil exports.
